Chemistry Lab Information
Chemistry is an especially fun science! We will be doing several labs throughout the year to reinforce concepts we learn in the class and to practice our scientific inquiry skills. While they are a lot of fun, they can also be dangerous.
THINGS TO KNOW:
1. All students MUST sign a Student Safety Contract
2. All students MUST complete a Lab Safety Lab. A list of lab safety procedures and rules are posted on this page. During labs periods, you must be prepared and you must listen to directions very carefully. Failure to do so can result in severe personal injury, which may lead to death. To minimize the chances of accidents, we will not be doing any lab that requires high heat, fire, or chemicals that are considered extremely volatile.
3. Lab will be graded as a separate class. You either get a S for Satisfactory or U for Unsatisfactory. If you have less than 65% of your labs with a U rating, you will receive an Unsatisfactory on your report card. You will not be able to earn lab credit.
4. In order to take the Chemistry regents, you need 1200 hours of lab.
5. In this class, you will learn piece by piece how to write a lab report. By the end of the year, you will have thorough practice writing each part as well as had some experience writing college-level complete lab reports. To write these lab reports, we will be going through the writing process.
